Time to kick off the new year dance and drum sessions. We’ve set a couple of dates to get started.
Sun 19th February and Sun 4th March
10.30am to 12.30pm World Dance
1pm to 2.30pm Drumming
At Bishops Wood Estate, Kerikeri
As for last year – come to either or both sessions for $5.
If coming for both sessions you might want to bring some lunch. For the drumming sessions please bring your own hand drum.
At these sessions we’ll plan future times and dates.

With Dimitri’s return Fretless is is able to start busking again.

Scheduled dates in Paihia to coincide with ship visits are:

15 & 19 December 2011, 8 February 2012, 9.30am onwards.

The Fritter 5 launch party was held at the Salut Bar and Brasserie, Bank St, Whangarei on Sunday 13 November.

The aim of Fritter 5 is to promote the quality and diversity of original Northland music and the tune Shelley from the Rosewood CD is on it.

Rosewood will go busking as wandering minstrels in the streets of Paihia on a number of days that cruise ships are in the Bay.
“Fretless” was going to do these dates but is now unavailable.

  21 Oct, 1pm onwards, 9 Nov, 15 & 19 Dec, 9.30am onwards.

Following several world dance sessions and the successful hand drumming workshop on 2 October we’re now running some combined dance and drum sessions at Bishops Wood Estate, Kerikeri.

World dance will start at 11am and run for about 1.5 hours. After a break the drumming session will run from 1.30pm for another 1.5 hours. Come to either or both sessions for $5.

After several requests we’ve decided to run a hand drumming workshop for beginners.

It will be held at Bishops Wood Estate, Kerikeri on Sunday 2 October at 1pm – duration approx 2 hours – gold coin entry – bring your own hand drum.

The workshop will be an introduction to hand drumming aimed at beginners and covering a range of genres and styles.

After a couple of successful gigs with Dimitri we’ve decided to form an acoustic street band named “Fretless” to go busking around the streets of Paihia this summer.

The 3 of us will play fairly loud instruments – Larry on cumbus, June on djembe/darbuka and Dimitri on tea chest bass.

In particular we’ve been scheduled through Blah Blah Marketing to play on a number of dates that cruise ships are in the Bay.

Related four piece band A Trifle Bazaar is in recess for a few months with one of it’s members overseas. In the meantime Dimitri from ATB will join Rosewood for occasional gigs as guest artist “the Greek”

The tune Shelley has been selected by the Fritter Project Committee for inclusion on Fritter 5. The aim of the CD is to promote the quality and diversity of original Northland music and the project is organised by Wards Music Works.

Fritter 5 was launched at Salut Bar and Brasserie, Whangarei on 13 November 2011.
